• What do you favor:
B&W or Color ?
I started out as a B&W purist, until I went to photo school and learned how to use colors as a psychological tool. Now it's all color all the time.
Film or Digital ?
I am an addict... which means immediate gratification in all area's of my life. However, I still day dream of 4x5 chromes.
Studio or Location?
Locations. Fly me to the moon. Let me play among the stars.
Night or Day?
I love day time for shooting, however I am pretty nocturnal as far as business productivity goes. I am usually up till 3 or 4am.
Portrait or Landscape?
I'll take it all thanks.
Captain Hero or Cartman?
Mighty Mouse.
• What is your most treasured possession?
My sanity.
• Favorite photo book and/or Favorite movie?
Favorite photobook... would actually be postsecret. Favorite movie... Little Miss Sunshine.
• Photographer/s that inspire you?
In all honesty, I get inspired more by contemporary painters- my fav's these days are Yoshitomo Nara and Tara McPherson. As far as some photographers who are doing, and have done it right- Irving Penn, Diane Arbus, Jill Greenberg, Stan Musilek, Nan Goldin and as cliche as it is... David LaChapelle.
• Advice for the younglings out there looking through their first viewfinder?
I was always told to shoot shoot shoot, but what has helped me the most is continuing my education as much as possible on the topics of photography, business, psychology and whatever photo field it is you really want to shoot for.
• What’s the story behind the photo below?
I shot this photo of half-siblings Paulo and Alexandra Loonin for Alex's blog (http://monki.webblogg.se/). Alexandra was born and raised in Sweden and Paulo was born and raised in California. This photo was taken at the end of her year and a half stay in San Francisco, most of which was spent building a relationship with her brother and running around the city causing a ruckus. Apparently blogging in Sweden is super huge.
• Any future projects or travels?
I am always traveling. This past year alone I've traveled to England, NYC, New Orleans, Flagstaff, Oklahoma, Nashville, North Carolina, Portland, Seattle, Florida, Maui, Palm Springs and I am headed to Cayucos in a couple weekends. There is no end to my travels. I don't consider myself a photojournalist, however anyone who sees the photos from my adventures would beg to differ.
• Where can we see more of your work?
You can see more of my work on my website http://FrankieNorstad.com and on my blog http://FrankieShotMe.blogspot.com
• In 1 word, last thing you’d say if time stopped right NOW?
Blessed.
